Yeat switches styles like the rest of us change clothes, and 2025’s DANGEROUS SUMMER EP is a tantalizing look at the underground wunderkind turned superstar rapper’s next era. He’s moved from straight-ahead rage rap to Carti-influenced technicolor freakouts, even incorporating the smooth pop-rap of his buddy Drake on previous releases. Here, though, he attempts something he’s never done before: specifically, jamming every style he’s ever been interested in into a cohesive whole. In typical Yeat fashion, it works. “PUT IT ONG” begins with an enchanting, soul-inspired vocal and drum chop before the rapper comes roaring through to compare himself to Amelia Earhart and the Gremlins. Elsewhere, on the SahBabii-assisted “M.F.U.,” he raps over warm synths and a basic trap drumbeat, letting his and the Chicago rapper’s flows dance around a playful bell melody. Who knows how long Yeat will stick with this specific sound, but it sure is enjoyable while it lasts.
